I'm not the world's biggest feminist. I will admit that right off the bat. I believe in equality for everyone, and ergo, I call myself an equalist instead of a feminist. (It's mainly because "equalist" is more encompasing than "feminist", really.) I do read various feminist blogs, and scoff at the people who think that women belong barefoot and in the kitchen. On the other hand, when it comes to divorce cases and what not, I don't think a child should go directly to his mother just because a child "needs" her; I can tell you from experience that a child needs his father, as well, for various reasons. I believe that a child should go to the parent/guardian who can take care of his emotional, spiritual, and physical needs the best.

When I read this article at Jezebel, along with [livejournal.com profile] innerbrat's commentary and [livejournal.com profile] areyoumymemmy's post with comments, I couldn't help but nod my head and go "YES" a good number of times. I am a young woman, I have (unfortunately for me, large) breasts, and I have been called cute by people of both sexes. I get hit on a lot--which certainly isn't helped by my OKCupid profile and status as a stereotypical Hot Bi Babe--and have had to deal with the consequences. There's a major difference between being a skeezy guy looking for a date/easy lay on a dating site, and being skeezy while in normal public. The second is, honestly, a lot more disturbing on a fundamental level. At least when you're on a dating site, you kind of expect to have to deal with a few skeezoids. I don't think it's fair, or right, that as a woman, I have to dress in a burlap sack to reduce the chances of getting hit on in this most subtle, disturbing of ways. There is a difference between, you know, starting off into a one night stand *cough*hitrevor*cough* with a guy that's not setting off your creepy factor and trying to have a girl's night out somewhere while being bombarded by these almost-insulting come-ons.

I should note that desperation, while often coming off as creepy, isn't the same as what I'm talking about. I've known plenty of nice guys (not Nice Guys) who are lonely and seeking companionship (and hopefully a replacement for his right hand, if you know what I'm saying), but who are otherwise really great people. Hell, I'm a gamer geek chick. I hung out with these types of guys more often than I care to admit. (And no, none of you on my flist are in this category, so don't get paranoid, gentlemen!)

I wish I weren't so afraid that I'm getting incoherent, because there's more I'd like to say on the subject. Unfortunately, I'm also trying to write my resume and get a job as I write this. So, abrupt conclusion is abrupt, and now have dragons.

Eddie Izzard is my personal hero for today.

In other news, last night, [livejournal.com profile] blackpaladin and I went to his holiday party gala. There was a [livejournal.com profile] valancy17, hors d'oeuvres, an obnoxious DJ, good food, and gambling with fake money. I won the maximum number of tickets (plus extra 'cause we ran out of chips and I kept giving

Prom-esque picture behind cut )

All in all, it was a good time, and I got glitter everywhere :D

I have the best boyfriend ever, by the way. He bought me the only White Wolf core book I don't have in deadtree, Hunter: the Vigil. He also took me to Target and bought me my first Transformer, Blackarachnia from the Animated Series. I continued my Mighty Muggs collection, which started with Mace Windu. Today, I bought Dr. Doom, Snake Eyes, and Cobra Commander. It is my mission in life to freak [livejournal.com profile] nerdboyhimself and [livejournal.com profile] saberpilot out with these things. I think they're adorable. <3

I'm currently sitting at [livejournal.com profile] sk4p's house (aka The Palace) playing Dominion and wondering what the hell I did to my left elbow. It hurts to move the damn thing. O_o

Here's hoping that the year so far looks up! I'm not very excited for my birthday 'cause, well, turning 24 means that I'm just getting a year older, and I don't expect (or want) any more presents. I think I know what my parents are doing for my birthday (I really need a decent SDHC card, and I showed Mom the one I wanted on newegg.) I just want hugs at TND, if you feel the need to do anything, y'all.

And now I'm going to pay attention to my game. <3

Could Twilight's Success pave way for new Buffy movie?

And a couple more:

Patrick Swayze's Cancer Metastasized Damn.

And no surprise: Lawl and Order fucks up Ledger death story Okay, look, I'm tired to death of hearing about Ledger, but for fuck's sake, NBC, at least get it right so that the story's recognizable. You've done it before!

I actually wonder if there's legal issues there that's preventing a better retelling of the story... hmm.

Also, if you haven't seen the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade Rick Roll, you can now. (I'm not embedding 'cause I'm afraid people who are sick of it will stab me if I do.)

I'm skipping this week's [livejournal.com profile] ljdq because I can't be funny with those questions. This isn't important, really, but I thought I'd share anyway.

And now, my exhaustion is catching up to me, but at least the migraine went away.

I'm hanging at the Toybox today, 'cause fuck going home, ya know? There's a reason that this place is aka The Sanctuary, and it isn't just 'cause I'm dating [livejournal.com profile] blackpaladin.

Found a couple of neat links while perusing THE INTERNETS:

In other news, Illyana is the cutest cat ever...

Currently accepting lolcat headings, because my funny is broken. If you can't tell what's going on in the photo, Illyana is hanging out behind [livejournal.com profile] blackpaladin's DM screen, plotting evil plottiness.

Speaking of DMs and gaming, I had to bail on last night's game. I had the migraine from hell, which, thankfully, is mostly gone this morning. I will not be consuming anywhere near that amount of caffeine in a weekend again. Between stress and too much Mountain Dew... ugh.

And now... I need sweet things because I am addicted to chocolate. Going to raid the brownies and cake brb

I have a kitty on my lap, you guys! Specifically, her name is Illyana, and she is [livejournal.com profile] blackpaladin's baby. She is adorable and I love her. I am incredibly glad that I have been adopted by his cats.

Hah. It really hasn't been that long, but now when I hear sirens outside, I think of [livejournal.com profile] metaphor and hope that she's out on an exciting and interesting run. I don't want anyone to be hurt, of course, but I'm so proud of Rueling for working so hard. :D

Speaking of a Rue, I found a couple of neat links in her LJ this morning. Chronologically, bone marrow cures AIDS?. Next, this happened: possible proof.

I am leaving for Columbus around 1. I should be getting in around dinnertime, so while I'd like to spend this evening hanging with fellow KoLers, if anyone in the area only has tonight to chill, we can. There's a tag called 'contact info'--feel free to call me if you can see that post.

Here's hoping that TxtLJ and/or calling posts in will count for nablopomo. I'm not going to hunt a computer down just to write an LJ entry! That's silly.

It is difficult to type around a cat. She's certainly better than a blanket, though.

Oh my fuck dude why are people still harping on the JFK assassination? Gah, conspiracy theorists. It happened, it's over, get over it and learn to function. Sigh.

I actually don't have much to say right now, so I'm gonna split. Have a great weekend without me, y'all.

cassildra: A silver pegasus on a purple shield. (lolz: cookie porn)
I'm not used to waking up and feeling so damn chipper. Even with the sleep deprivation going on, I'm incredibly cheerful right now. (Heh, so what do I decide to listen to? Freaking Stone Temple Pilots' "Tiny Music"... Does anyone know how the story really goes, or should we all just hum along? Sell your sole and sign an autograph, big bang baby it's a crash crash crash...)

Last night was a lot of fun. On the way back to The Toybox, [livejournal.com profile] blackpaladin and I stopped at Giant Eagle. I was originally just going to grab a roast to make for Tuesday Night Dinner, but [livejournal.com profile] blackpaladin mentioned he had a bad day. Well, what's the best solution for a bad day besides lots and lots of good sex? Cookies, of course. I baked some dark chocolate chip cookies and they turned out beautifully. Hence, I forgot about the roast until it was too late to make it, but since cookies rule everything ever, life is good. (Besides, I have the roast in the oven as I type this.)

That episode of Heroes last night... I need to marathon the first two seasons because HUHBWAH? I could stream it over the internet, I suppose, but that's not as fun. I need to watch the rest of LOST before [livejournal.com profile] buongiornodaisy gets mad at me, as well. D:

I was reading my flist this morning and found a gem. Cookie Porn! (NSFW) starring McKay/Shepard. I don't watch SGA, nor do I particularly ship anything, but this was just cute. Also, thin mints are totally cookie sluts!

Ooh, going back to a subject... I absolutely love [livejournal.com profile] buongiornodaisy. She made a layout for my Faye Whitaker RP journal, and it is absolutely fucking incredible. [livejournal.com profile] burbonmilkshake Go check it out, and if you like what you see, consider commissioning a layout or icons from her. She does great work! Plus, she's my Frankie. :P

(I am also taking suggestions on what my next LJ layout for this journal should be. [livejournal.com profile] buongiornodaisy is making that one, too, and there are so many tempting things... halp plox?)

I love [livejournal.com profile] blackpaladin's cats, I swear I do, but I'm not sure if I can handle waking up with a sore throat from post-nasal drip so often. I need to call the doctor for a lot of things and ask about allergy shots. That will work out well in other ways too--I can hang out at [livejournal.com profile] chapelski's and pet her cats, too.

I've got a feeling that today will be filled with angst-inducing grunge. Feeling this happy all the time is seriously disconcerting. ...I need more Soundgarden. Hm. Anyway, I've got to finish a ton of jewelry before I leave for Columbus on Thursday (seriously you guys, call me so we can make plans). Catch you guys later.

Yesterday was so much fun. There was Sports Night! And Rock Band! And AD&D 4th edition! And Indian food! And omg my character for the campaign, I love her bitchy snark so!

Okay, let me back up a little.

[livejournal.com profile] blackpaladin came and got me around noonish, and we went back to his place. We watched the first DVD of Sports Night, and now I'm hooked. So, along with LOST, I have another addiction to fuel. At least this one's only three discs long...

After looking at [livejournal.com profile] blackpaladin's shelves, I'm going to have to deal with this a lot. XD

I played Rock Band for the second time ever last night. I really, really like it, but I have terrible rhythm and am afraid to move from vocals. Don't get me wrong, I'm apparently really good at them, but it's still kind of intimidating. I'll go back to playing clarinet by ear and fudging rhythms kthx.

I also made my first ever 4e AD&D character. I like the system a lot more than I thought I would, to my delighted surprise. As much as I love 2e, 4e is a lot less clunky. I miss THAC0 the tiniest bit--mostly for nostalgic value or some form of geek cred, I think--but it's so much easier now. While I understand the arguments saying that it's too much like an MMORPG, I really like the way things have been streamlined. I mean, if I can pick it up with few problems, it's definitely a lot easier than it used to be. (Consider that I was pretty much just a White Wolf player beforehand--d10 is all I know! d10 is my OTP! I was kind of rabid about it actually...)

An amusing sidenote: when the GM was trying to decide whether or not to make my character's entrance tragic or not, I mentioned that I don't mind tragic. The White Wolf jokes started flying... Oh, WW, how I love your angst so. Even if most of it would be avoided if people would play vampires less like Lestat and more like Dracula...

I got home this morning and was so thankful that Betty wasn't on the corner. Betty is my 81 year old neighbor, the Queen Gossip of Dormont, and she'd blow a gasket if she saw some guy dropping me off at 0740! God forbid!

In more important news, this article made me really nervous. People fall for these tricks, unfortunately. It sparked an interesting discussion over on the WW Mods. A friend from Argentina was discussing how everyone there is required to show up and vote, and for some reason I really like that idea. I also (re-)learned what the difference between a republic and a democracy is. Apparently, my senior year was spent being too busy with migraines to deal with actually learning anything.

Well, now I've got dishes to do and a kitchen to organize. I'm far too awake for being up so early.

Don't forget to vote tomorrow, Americans.

cassildra: A silver pegasus on a purple shield. (generic: tea)
Yesterday was weird as hell. The high was only 44 degrees Fahrenheit, and for a while, there was actually snow on the ground. Snow! In freaking October! What the fuck, Ma Nature?! Are you going to be cranky like this all winter? Today's high is going to be 51, and tomorrow's is going to be 64. ...I don't understand. The dog and I went out yesterday during the snow shower, and he came back in coated in the white stuff. He looked like it was mid-January. Gah.

I'm just hoping that the pressure fluxes don't screw me over with a migraine. I really want to go to the two parties I've got planned. [livejournal.com profile] bluemoon_991 made me a fabulous Flying Spaghetti Monster costume (I promise pictures!), and while the costume's great, I'm not dressing up in it twice. I have a Sekrit Plan for the party on Saturday--my costume is going to cause lulz. At least, I hope. I'm sure someone who will be there will know what I'm trying to pull off.

Dad starts chemo today. It's going to be interesting for the next six to eight weeks. I'm apologizing in advance for any crankiness or shortness that occurs. If I get like that, just tell me to shut up and make a cup of tea. ♥ I love tea, and it makes me feel better.

Okay. I need to go find television that isn't Full House.

ETA: Does anyone else find this hilariously ironic? Praying to golden statues FOR THE FUCKING LULZ.
